Panma Canal

Panama Canal
The issue in this political cartoon is how President Roosevelt is doing all he can possibly do to get the canal working. The cartoonists message is that President Theodore Roosevelt had and broke treaties, violated international laws, and even had Columbia protest to have this canal built in Panama.
If another person saw this cartoon, the person might have felt that Roosevelt was going way too extreme with the canal being built. But in the same sense, I feel that Roosevelt going a bit extreme is acceptable because he is determined to have America prosper in all good ways. Some techniques the cartoonist used in this cartoon are labeling and exaggeration. Theodore Roosevelt is on a wagon literally running over all the laws which represents exaggeration. The President is also on a road of regualtions, rules, and treaties that are all labeled. This cartoon supports my opinion on American Imperalism because it shows that one country is willing to do anything and everthing to exand borders and sphere of influence.
